African Union Development Agency NEPAD

Summary: 

Organizational profile: The mandate of the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) is to: a) Coordinate and Execute priority regional and continental projects to promote regional integration towards the accelerated realisation of Agenda 2063; and b) Strengthen capacity of African Union Member States and regional bodies, advance knowledge-based advisory support, undertake the full range of resource mobilisation and serve as the continent’s technical interface with all Africa’s development stakeholders and development partners.

Through the NEPAD Climate Change Fund, the NEPAD Agency aims to strengthen the resilience of African countries to climate change by building national, sub-regional and continental capacity. Established in 2014 by the NEPAD Agency with support from the Government of Germany, the Fund offers technical and financial assistance to AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities and institutions. AUDA-NEPAD works to promote climate resilience, environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources. 

Financing Instrument: Grants, Technical Assistance

Project scale: Projects supporting by the climate change fund have ranged from €50,000 to €220,000.

Recipient countries regions/country groups: Africa

Eligibility Criteria: Institutions and Organizations working specifically in the target areas of the Fund will be considered. Priority will be given to African:
- Government institutions (e.g. Ministries of environment, agriculture, municipalities etc)
- Regional Economic Communities
- Regional and national coalitions of civil society organisations involved in the target areas of the Fund
