High-level roadmap: Aligning financial flows with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

Summary:

This high-level roadmap proposes recommendations for all actors within the financial landscape – financial ministries, financial supervisory entities, public development banks, private financial institutions, investors – on integrating the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) within their policies and decision-making processes. It builds on the content of the GBF as well as the increasing level of ambition and commitments being expressed by financial actors, as seen at the COP15 Finance and Biodiversity Day, to propose key action that each actor within the financial landscape can take to support the implementation of the GBF and contribute to achieving its 2030 mission of reversing nature loss, and 2050 vision of living in harmony with nature.

This roadmap is issued for consideration by all interested actors within the financial landscape. It does not propose a new set of commitments. Rather, it refers to a set of existing commitments, guidance and frameworks that are currently available for financial policymakers and market participants to build action on nature in line with the 23 targets for action by 2030 of the GBF.

This publication was developed by the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) in consultation with the co-organizers of the Finance and Biodiversity Day at COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in December 2022 in Montreal: The Secretariat of the CBD, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, Finance for Biodiversity Foundation, and Finance Montréal.
